Dad's collection of old family photos is amazing, and we owe it all to his grandmother Lillian. If you've been following the plot, Lillian married William Arthur Kelly Jr around 1900, had two sons with him, and buried him in 1907. She married his much younger brother Mahlon around 1911. They lived as man and wife for at most 3 years. The photos of the Kellys of Baltimore that are in Dad's posession are in his posession because Lillian got them and kept them.
Lillian lived her last few years with my Dad's family in Atlantic City. She died at home at 11:50 PM Wednesday Sept 4 1935 according to a note in my grandfather's hand. Her photo collection fell under my grandfather's care, and once he and my grandmother Kitty had lived out their lives Dad ended up with all of it.
My intention is to add photos from Dad's collection that are of possible interest to us descendants of William & Charlotte Kelly over the next few weeks and months. My hope is to also add photos of Browns, Calverts, Popes, Potts, Perrines and the Edward Kellys. Stay tuned.
I'm 100% positive of the identification of the photos of Mahlon #1 in a tux, my grandfather in 1927 and my very young grandmother with Dad in 1925. If Peter and I have correctly IDed the 1880 family photo, then the individual photos of Charlotte and William Arthur Kelly follow. The photo of Lillian is easy to date from her clothing - mid-1890s. The studio card it's mounted on says "Leipzig", I have a photo of Lillian as a little girl with her parents that shows her with the same hairline, and the same note in my grandfather's hand that gives the date and time of her death says she attended school in Leipzig. I'm 99.9% sure of this one. Dad has later photos he IDs as Lillian. She put on some weight. The photo identified as Will Jr is somewhat more speculative - I said to Dad "I think this is your grandfather", he replied "I think so too." My grandfather has his nose more or less, and the photo is from Lillian's collection. I'm 90% sure of this one. As for Jennie, Peter and I both think it's her because of the ages of the photo and its subject, and the corners of her mouth are recessed like the woman we think is Charlotte. 80%.
And I bet you thought I was going to explain how to operate the gallery. : >
